This is laid down in Article 7 of the Basic Law. This means that denominational lessons are also accessible to unbaptized, atheistic students. This learning offer does not seem to be as unpopular as the statistics from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture show. According to this, 58,600 unbaptized children and young people in the Free State took part in religious instruction in the past school year.

No hasty decision about the children’s religion

A special case exists when parents belong to different religions, are separated and the children only live with one parent. In June 2014 there was a decision at the Hamm Higher Regional Court (Az .: 12 UF 53/12).

In this case, after the divorce, children must not be prematurely integrated into one of the religious communities. The court ruled against the baptism and communion of two children whose father belonged to a different religious community than the mother.

In the case under discussion, the two children had lived with their mother since their parents divorced. The mother is a Christian, the father a Muslim. The children did not yet belong to any religious community. They attended a Catholic school in their mother’s place of residence and took religious lessons. The mother wanted to baptize the two children as Catholics and let them take communion. The father did not agree. The mother then applied to the court to give her the sole decision about baptism and communion.

The court of first instance found the mother right. The father appealed against the decision. He saw the danger that the children would identify with the Christian faith and consequently no longer be interested in the Islamic religion.

The father was successful before the Higher Regional Court: The early integration of the children into one of the two religious communities does not best correspond to the child’s best interests. Even without baptism and communion, the children could continue to attend religious classes. Only after their 14th birthday can they decide for themselves which of the two religious communities they want to belong to.

The creed in beautiful verse

Thanks to the common metaphors and their sophisticated rhyming patterns, sayings are a great way to convey a message to the child. Shorter poems are particularly suitable as an entry on greeting cards or on invitations.

The following saying, for example, encourages the child to stand by his faith: „” Stand up for your heart’s opinion and do not fear the enemy’s ridicule, courageously fight the negative, if you have faith in God. „” (Theodor Fontane, German Writer) So this poem is a firm commitment to religion – so you can strengthen the child’s self-confidence.

Sayings aimed at children

„” I wish you for communion that God the Father and God the Son protect you with blessings on all your ways. Then you wander piously and happily towards the golden gate of heaven. „” (Ernst Moritz Arndt, German writer) Communion sayings like this one here clearly show the child that the path to be taken is the right one that God will always be by his side.

One of the most popular sayings about communion is: „” The world is full of God’s blessings; If you want it, it is yours. All you have to do is move your hand and foot. You just need to be pious and wise. „” (Friedrich Wilhelm Weber, German poet) These verses encourage the child to remain true to their faith and to trust God’s good nature.

General sayings for communion

Another poem, which is not only aimed at children, but is also suitable for adults: „” Fear makes unfree, belief free. Fear paralyzes, faith gives strength. Fear discourages us, faith encourages us. Fear makes you sick, faith heals. Fear makes us unfit, faith makes us fit. „” (Ralph Waldo Emerson, American philosopher)

„This is a development that shouldn’t continue like this, but that we should contain,” said Merkel in Düsseldorf. There she took part in a meeting of the North Rhine-Westphalian cabinet. The Robert Koch Institute reported 1,390 new infections within one day on Tuesday morning.

They want to do everything possible to keep the infection process in check. „When I said tighten the reins, I mean that the rules have to be enforced very consistently,” said Merkel. According to information from the „” Bild „” newspaper, the Chancellor said in the presidium meeting of her party on Monday: „” You have to pull the reins in order not to run into a disaster with Corona.

Merkel welcomed a consistent crackdown on violations of the Corona rules: „” I am very grateful if fines are imposed, including for not wearing masks or the like. These are not just petty offenses, they are also always endangerments for fellow human beings. „” She also reminded that „” substantial fines „” can threaten if travelers returning from risk areas do not go into quarantine. That is not a can determination.

Merkel and NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) pointed out after the joint cabinet meeting that corona restrictions could only be withdrawn if the number of infections fell. If they rose, safeguards would need to be stepped up. „In any case, from my point of view, further easing cannot take place at the moment,” said Merkel. Neither of them made any specific statements about possible tightening. The Chancellor called private celebrations and trips to risk areas with a view to the spread of the virus „” important building blocks.

Against this background, on Tuesday there was further discussion about whether there should be new upper limits for family celebrations. Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had suggested speaking again about the permitted sizes of private parties because of the risk of infection. This is regulated differently in the countries. According to the current Corona regulation, indoor events with up to 500 people are currently allowed in Berlin. In North Rhine-Westphalia a maximum of 150 guests may be present at „” social events such as weddings, and in Bavaria a maximum of 100.

The Marburger Bund doctors’ association demanded uniform national guidelines. Upper limits for guests and concepts for ventilation are important, said chairwoman Susanne Johna of the newspapers of the Funke media group. The German Family Association joined in demands for restrictions, showing solidarity means being able to restrict oneself for the common good. This also applies to family celebrations, said Federal Managing Director Sebastian Heimann of the German Press Agency.

Merkel and Laschet made it clear in the event of new restrictions that this time they should not affect business life, children or schools first. These would have priority. According to the head of the North Rhine-Westphalia government, there will be „” talks between the Prime Ministers of the federal states and Merkel about the next few days. An exact date for such a meeting is not yet known. The last time the Chancellor and country leaders agreed on the course in the Corona crisis in June.

„We do not want to ban family celebrations,” said Mecklenburg Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on Tuesday in Schwerin. These are important for living together in society. „” But we appeal to everyone to be careful even at family celebrations. It is difficult. You want to hug your siblings, your parents. You put your heads together more at a family celebration than maybe at a professional meeting. „” Appeal to reason.

The CDU health politician Karin Maag said in the SWR that despite the regionally different number of Corona cases, people need to know whether they are only allowed to invite 50 guests or 150. „” That has something to do with communication and security and that is why it should be standardized. „”

Catholic children go to first communion as early as primary school age. There they receive the first Eucharist, i.e. the first Lord’s Supper. Catholics celebrate communion with Jesus in the „” holy bread „”.

The meaning of first communion

First communion is an important step in growing into the Catholic Church. The celebration is a festival for the whole community and, along with baptism and confirmation, is one of the sacraments for the introduction into the church. These are the so-called sacraments of the becoming Christian. During their first holy communion, Catholics are allowed to receive the converted host for the first time.

According to the Catholic view, Jesus Christ is present after the change in bread and wine, so the children encounter Jesus Christ for the first time at communion. The Eucharistic celebration is one of the seven sacraments alongside baptism, confession, confirmation, marriage, ordination and anointing of the sick. On this day the primary school children are accepted into the „” meal community „”, the „” Communio „”.

At the first communion, children are accepted a second time into the community of the Catholic parish after they are baptized. Confirmation In the Protestant Church, young people confirm their faith with confirmation. They too are accepted into the parish a second time after being baptized. Confirmants receive all the rights and duties of an adult Christian. Confirmation The Catholic Church celebrates Confirmation after First Communion. With confirmation, a Catholic becomes a full member of the religious community.

When is communion celebrated?

For a long time, the classic date for first communion was White Sunday – the first Sunday after Easter. In the meantime, this date is often no longer kept, mainly for organizational reasons, many parishes choose different dates in spring.

From the 13th century onwards, the age for communion was raised, until children finally attended communion between the ages of ten and 14. In 1910 Pope Pius X finally lowered the age for communion back to about seven years. In Germany, most children nowadays go to communion around the age of nine.

Preparation for communion

In order to be able to go to communion, the children are first baptized – usually when they are babies.
